To the Coloured Mind

 Lifetime of inferiority,
As perceived by colour,
A colour racism always let turn into fascism,
Whatever the accomplishments, all turned black by white,
For White is the new Black!

I end up doing the menial,
Always hear the heinial.
Always looked down,
Forced to Look up.
For White is the new Black!

I’m silenced by day,
And violated by night.
I championed for the cause,
Am made to rue for the loss.
For White is the new Black!

A day shall come when darkness is positive,
And dawn negative,
For I wait to rule in the night,
As my skin was never favoured in light,
For White is the new Black!

I wait and await,
For a day beyond colours,
To be an accomplice to glory,
For the Intellect to honor me
beyond physicality,
For white to turn grey,
With all the fervor I pray!

An ode to Black panther, in a bid to rhyme!

The Common Man

I am a common man,
Dreaming of rags to riches,
Earnestly waiting for the sight of beauty,
Looking to abscond from duty.
Waiting for a glimpse of rain,
Praying not to get wet and stain.

I am a common man,
Praying for a lottery on a daily basis,
Bribing divinity with devotion,
Losing my plot with emotion,
Invading others’ privacy,
Doing my bit for the rumour mill,
So that I am the first one to shout about it atop the hill.

I am a common man,
For I can neither  desist the fantasies
Nor can I resist human fallacies
I shall comment on elected representatives  but
I shall never be the change I want to see

I am a common man,
Craving a lifetime of attention,
Plagued by the spotlight and intention.
Waiting for opportunity to knock on my door,
While I wait outside not noticing.

Alas I am a common man rendered common by mediocrity in thought, with laziness playing a part,
Drowning the sounds of conscience and immersing myself in Individualism without originality,

I am a common man and  I shall remain thus.
