After life

My words for Afterlife, A Netflix series, which borders on lives lost and the coping mechanism available to a survivor. A beautiful mishmash of tragedy, empathy, reason to live, living with and for others, finding another.

An ode to memory,
The memory of the loved,
The loved with whom you lived.
You reminisce the good old times,
As you have nothing to cheer your present,
But the memories of the past .
A peek into it gives a high,
You forget the present,
Relive the past.
When the smile that used to be,
Turns into a frown that be.
And you catch yourself thinking of it.
You get back to the times that were,
In whose presence what you turned out to be.
With some one to shoulder your past misgivings,
To carry the present with you, for you,
And to reassure your future with warmth .
There maybe just words unspoken,
But words uttered to your hearts’ content,
Handled with care and the purest intent.
When days used to be,
Days you’d look ahead to,
Days you’d reason with,
Days you’d live for,
Now turned into an afterlife you’d forget,
Trying to relive the past.

The Actor

The words spoken were written by another,
The lives I lived were reality to another,
The scenes were emoted once before to me by another,
In the end its me known to another.
Am I a Polestar or Am I the moon?
For I am an instrument of another’s light !
My work behind the scene isn’t seen ,
I mug the lines,
Guess Retakes are fine.
Between Reality and an Act,
I might have lost me for another,
Just to be revelled by another.
That another wants to be me,
Guess I was another when I dreamed of being the other,

An actor! Not knowing when Its me and when its another!

A mirage of change

What you see will change,
What you dream will change,
Change the only constant.
This instant if not lived will change,
Till change becomes constant
This moment that passes will be your past,
If you’ve not lived in the present.
If the past haunts you and the future taunts you,
Just live in the present and adopt to change
For Change is permanent,
For Change in omnipotent,
For Change is ever present.
Inaction would result in a moment lost in contemplation,
Rather adapt to change, with temptation for life,
For life is a mirage of change, altered by the concept of time.
As times change, be the change in the mirage of life.

The love at first sight

Fooled by sight and confirmed by vanity
Your heart has chosen the profanity of your minds’ chasms
When love is superficial,
When your lover is artificial,
The sight is fixed at the appearance,
As the looks wane,
The love wanes.
As the love wanes,
The sight is on stains and
The relationship is strained,
The colour palette of life is reduced to black and white and one starts painting grey.
When you renounce the superficial
And denounce the sight
And for once choose without materiality or vision,
There’s still hope for life to blossom into something you’d cherish when all is lost except memories.

To the Coloured Mind

 Lifetime of inferiority,
As perceived by colour,
A colour racism always let turn into fascism,
Whatever the accomplishments, all turned black by white,
For White is the new Black!

I end up doing the menial,
Always hear the heinial.
Always looked down,
Forced to Look up.
For White is the new Black!

I’m silenced by day,
And violated by night.
I championed for the cause,
Am made to rue for the loss.
For White is the new Black!

A day shall come when darkness is positive,
And dawn negative,
For I wait to rule in the night,
As my skin was never favoured in light,
For White is the new Black!

I wait and await,
For a day beyond colours,
To be an accomplice to glory,
For the Intellect to honor me
beyond physicality,
For white to turn grey,
With all the fervor I pray!

An ode to Black panther, in a bid to rhyme!

The Common Man

I am a common man,
Dreaming of rags to riches,
Earnestly waiting for the sight of beauty,
Looking to abscond from duty.
Waiting for a glimpse of rain,
Praying not to get wet and stain.

I am a common man,
Praying for a lottery on a daily basis,
Bribing divinity with devotion,
Losing my plot with emotion,
Invading others’ privacy,
Doing my bit for the rumour mill,
So that I am the first one to shout about it atop the hill.

I am a common man,
For I can neither  desist the fantasies
Nor can I resist human fallacies
I shall comment on elected representatives  but
I shall never be the change I want to see

I am a common man,
Craving a lifetime of attention,
Plagued by the spotlight and intention.
Waiting for opportunity to knock on my door,
While I wait outside not noticing.

Alas I am a common man rendered common by mediocrity in thought, with laziness playing a part,
Drowning the sounds of conscience and immersing myself in Individualism without originality,

I am a common man and  I shall remain thus.

I lie in anticipation

Night and day I wait in anticipation,
of what eludes me, the wait that has kept me alive in my heart.

That one day, the day I can say I've moved on to something better, leaving behind all that was bitter.

I lie in anticipation, to meet the new normal that I can live with, people I can love with.

I lie in anticipation to move onto better things, waiting for a day worth living for and a moment worth dying for.

Unleashing myself to tie up that which was broken one last time, in anticipation of exposure to fragility.

I lie in anticipation that I shall find my feet again, to rise from my slumber and wander the dreams of a lover one last time.

I lie in anticipation to be married to my dreams one more time.

I lie in anticipation of life in all its glory, awaiting a life to love, then to live and alive to last.

This is an ode to Qarib Qarib Singley!

The Cactus

Seeded by a drop,
I grew with the slightest sight of moisture,
Preserving droplets like it were a nectar of immortality.
As the originator of light gave me my undivided attention,
I was deserted by humans,
Protected by thorns.
I prick people who don't notice and hurt to make them notice.
I lay rooted in gravels of sand shifting from hither to thither,
Without a place of my own,
Rarely uprooted, never firmly rooted,
The rain to me a mirage,
And the desert, my own garage.
Heat is my unborn twin, with me to my end.
The only person who dawns on me is celestial,
The only beauty I've known is the moonlight.
I rarely witness life,
As I'm unfettered by the living,
While Independently living.
Deserted mostly on desert,
And averted by vision.
I am the Cactus,
The sole survivor for ages,
With a life that no one gauges.

Love

Feeling elated to heaven,
Dancing onto her heart,
Feeling her heart crumble into my hands,
Flattered by my charm,
Invigorating her senses,
Reinventing chutzpah,
To her soberness.
And inventing direction,
To my wilderness.
She’s now strapped on to the tunes of my heart,
For she’s found love and I’ve found life.
Life that I felt leaving,
And Love that she’s been searching.
Our eyes meet,
And the search ends,
With our hearts rejoicing in unison.
Fortunate are the souls that could love,
For love is a saviour,
A saviour of Mankind.
For it instils hope,
In life from which one would want to elope.
